Hello everyone.
My name is Elaine Risley, and I am a painter from the West Coast. But my story isn't about
my present life. I'm here to inform everyone about the effects of bullying. Not only is bullying harmful when
it occurs, but it has long term effects that could leave permenant scars. I was the victim of malicious acts of
bullying. My family moved around the majority of my childhood, but when I heard that I was moving to a city called Toronto
I was estatic. I had never met a real young girl and I was anticipating making friends one. I was excited to see
the differences, since I spent my whole life with boys my age. Shortly after, I realized that was a mistake.
Soon did I find out that young children have the ability to be cruel and evil. At first they were nice, but then
they started to pick me apart and with every action or word which came out of my mouth, I was criticized. They
told me they wanted to "improve me" but it was clear that all they wanted was someone to push around. I was bullied
for several months, until I finally realized I needed to stick up for myself and I stopped talking to them.
There are so many other children who are bullied out there. I am often thinking about how like I was, there are
children somewhere sitting in their room at night, wondering when the pain is going to stop. They are constantly
wondering how much longer it will last before it pushes them over the edge. We need to learn how to stick up for
ourselves, as well as stick up for others who are noticed being bullied. The damaging effects of bullying need to be
made aware of. And its important that little by little, the bullying must be stopped.
Sincerely,
Elaine Risely.
